When I finally got over my anxiety this past autumn, I promised to resurrect Café Bioethics and I reassured myself, “You never know where this might lead!”
This week, on the last Friday of 2022, I am so proud to share with you the latest episode of the Darts and Letters Podcast. I would have shared this episode with you even if I wasn’t in it!
My MAID Pretzel newsletter caught their attention, and I was asked to share my thoughts on why I find the current MAID debate in Canada so difficult. My contribution is small and near the beginning, and I am so grateful to have been asked!
The host, Gordon Katic, discusses his ambivalence with the current MAID debate with Trudo Lemmens and Dr. Derryk Smith. His conversations with both thinkers are masterful and so illuminating. If you’re also unsettled on the debate, this is one you will want to listen to:
If you’re a bioethicist, some of this content may be Bioethics 101 material.
But, what about your friends who wonder and say, “I’ll never understand what you do!”
Café Bioethics is aimed to be accessible and interesting to those outside of academia too. Be sure to share this with a curious friend. :)
On a more personal note of reflection, I hope to further combat my anxiety and explore more of these interesting ideas in bioethics with you in 2023! Sending out an email to hundreds of you every week is still very daunting, but your support so far has been overwhelming. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Why are you receiving this newsletter?
Since Café Bioethics began in 2018, you must have subscribed to our email list to keep up with our work! We are so grateful!
Here is a new initiative we’ve come up with - the Café Bioethics Substack. I’ve personally loved subscribing to Substack newsletters about ethics, economics, and food - I thought, Café Bioethics would fit right in to the scene.
Every week, I’m going to send you stuff I think you should know about. There is so much bioethics-related content out there; I will find it and send it your way. And if you find some of this bioethics-y content - send it my way! It might make it’s way on the newsletter!
To learn more about Café Bioethics, be sure to visit our updated website! Check out our podcasts, publications, past events, and call for papers! Of course, don’t forget to say hello. :)
